Question: How waterproof is... waterproof?

That was my main question upon buying the Rev'it! Summit 3's, knowing that I live in the most tempermental province for unpredictable weather. Having gone from Halifax as a start on a semi-cloudy day up to Truro, and having it turn into rain, had me needing to weather proof myself with better gear. Once your hands get wet and cold, the ride is over. To the nearest gas station or Timmie's you go, to use their hand dryer.

Rev'it! doesn't give a specific rating for the weather proofing of these gloves, though the previous model had it rated at 5,000mm of rain protection so I'll start with that. This Fall, I took a trip with my partner to Cape Breton and along the way some random weather hit us (of course). Our trip spanned from Friday to Monday, and two of those days really proved to put the gloves to the test. Saturday had us going through simple drizzle at first and heavy mist at the end, from Port Hawkesbury to Sydney, coating the gloves in a layer of moisture. They did not seem to complain, though upon arrival to the hotel I noticed they were starting to feel a little damp inside. Throwing them on the heater dried them out quickly, and we continued our trip the next couple days.

In terms of how they feel, these are the most comfortable touring gloves I have ever worn. The feeling of the bars and controls isn't hindered by fat puffy material - they're more like a sport glove with a liner for all weather. They're labelled on the Rev'it! website as being a summer glove, but I would go so far as to say they are a comfortable Fall into Winter glove. I have ridden in temps as low as 5 degrees in these and still didn't feel any draft or cold inside the glove.

Now onto the not-so-good news... the way back from Sydney on Monday was not a fun one. We got stuck in an hour and a half ride of wet, windy weather. Within a half hour, the gloves were starting to seep through with water. Upon arrival to Port Hawkesbury, the gloves were soaked, and trying to dry out these gloves at that point was useless. I will also add that this weather was not the worst I have been caught in, so my only recommendation is that you don't rely on them being impenetrable to the elements. They will handle mild wet weather and drizzle, but nothing harder than that.

In summary, I will wrap this up with how happy I am with these gloves. With great feeling all the way through the glove to the grips and controls, and the added wind resistance and warmth that they provide, these are excellent gloves. I would highly recommend them to any rider that isn't too certain of the conditions that they may ride through.
