Everyone wants to find an affordable option to protect their dome. It is known that the more you spend on a helmet, the more likely you are to be getting a solid option. Some products out there are priced based on popularity and looks over function, but for the most part if you're spending $600+ for a helmet, you know you're getting a solid piece of gear. Just below the $600 price bracket are your intermediate options and again, though the price is lower, there are some perfect options that compete with the higher end helmets. The AGV K3 SV is in this category.

At $399.99, you are getting yourself a solid intermediate sport-styled helmet with most of the options you would want for a long term piece of gear.

The price does vary based on colour way and graphic options but all the K3 SV's are built equal. First off, the SV stands for sun visor, which is a nice improvement over the K1 which only has one clear visor. Second, the shape around the rear of the helmet is a bit more classic. Where the K1 has an aero-styled spoiler, the K3 has a simpler, sleeker look that does away with the spoiler. This all comes down to personal preference, personally I like the more simple shell design. The inner liner is of the softest material I have ever felt in a helmet. It's made with silky soft “Dry-Comfort” liner pads, so sliding the helmet on and off is pleasant and doesn’t allow for any tugging, especially if you are wearing earrings. You get nice ventilation, with 4 front vents (3 at the forehead and one chin on the chin guard), which lead to 2 rear exhaust vents. With all those vents popped open you can stay cool even during the hottest of summers.

Lastly I'd like to point out the noise quality. For its price point and style, this helmet, performs really well when it comes to deflection and noise cancelling. I have no complaints with wind whistles or humming coming through the helmet, and it takes the forward wind really well, causing no wind tunneling on the sides. The visor closes strongly and creates a good seal, so no drafting is able to leak in. My previous helmets were of the slightly higher end of intermediate performance design, around the same price point but I have to say that this helmet is much better at taking the wind head-on. On a separate note, AGV does include in the box an optional pinlock insert. They say that the visor comes inherently anti fog, but I have found that if you plan on riding in slightly cold weather or on foggy/rainy days, that you should definitely use the pinlock.

All in all, this is a perfect middleweight sporty helmet setup at a reasonable price point.

It's safe to say that if I had to get another helmet, I would totally put my money down for another one of these. If you come across an AGV K3 SV in a local shop and it fits just right, you can’t go wrong.
